Tips to Buy Warm Weather Clothes

Dressing for warm weather is more than just throwing on your favorite T-shirt and shorts. The right clothes will help you stay comfortable and look stylish.

Choose breathable fabrics like linen, cotton and seersucker. Wool is another good choice because it insulates even when wet. Also, look for synthetic materials like polypropylene, which wicks away moisture.

1. Light Colors

Choosing clothing that’s made with breathable fabrics is essential to staying cool during a heat wave. Cotton and linen are ideal warm weather clothes for shirts and t-shirts since they allow skin to breathe in hot temperatures. Look for fabrics with open weaves to promote air flow as well.

Opting for light colors is also a smart choice because they will reflect the sun’s rays rather than absorb them like dark hues do. Shirts and dresses in white and light colors will keep you cool and looking chic. You can even opt for sleeveless styles to help with the airflow as well. Opt for a puff-sleeve blouse or a short-sleeve button-up if you want to keep your arms covered but still allow for plenty of airflow.

2. Breathable Fabrics

Whether you’re tackling a high-intensity workout or enjoying a casual stroll, it’s important to choose breathable fabrics. Breathability allows air to circulate and cools the body. It also helps to wick away sweat, keeping you comfortable and dry.

Fabrics that are naturally breathable include cotton, linen, and silk. They’re also eco-friendly and absorbent. They are great for summer as they allow for easy movement while preventing overheating.

The type of weave and thread count also affects breathability. A general rule of thumb is that the lighter the fabric, the more breathable it will be. If you’re not sure, hold the fabric up to the light and see how much it lets through – more light suggests greater breathability. This is especially important when selecting dress shirts since heavier wool can be uncomfortable in warmer climates.

3. A Flower Fit

As you browse shirts for the spring and summer, be sure to look for a variety of prints. This includes polka dots, florals, lace, windowpane, stripes and leaf prints. Light colors and soft fabrics make these shirts the perfect addition to any warm weather outfit. You also want a shirt with a loose fit to help air circulate throughout the day. This will also keep you cooler than a tighter fit. Avoid clingy synthetic fabrics in favor of breathable ones like cotton or rayon.

4. Upgrade Your Athleisure

In the heat of summer, athleisure wear becomes a wardrobe staple. But just because you’re wearing a pair of shorts and a sports bra doesn’t mean you can’t look polished. Instead of opting for your favorite black leggings and a fitted sweatshirt, choose breathable fabrics that are designed to keep you cool and dry.

If you’re a fan of yoga or Pilates, go for stretchy fabric styles that wick away moisture and fit your body well. Alternatively, pick up a sleeveless dress that’s comfortable and breathable for a warm night out.

There are three key months to scoop up warm-weather staples: May, June, and July. These months coincide with the major spring and summer sales and give you a chance to score your warmer weather clothes at a great price.

5. Layer Up

Aside from keeping you warm, the right layers also help you regulate your body temperature. You’ll need a base layer that fits close to the skin and wicks away moisture; a mid layer that traps air warmed by your body; and an outer shell that protects from wind, sleet, and snow.

The base layer should be made from a moisture-wicking fabric like wool. Avoid cotton, as it absorbs sweat and can chill you. The mid layer should also be lightweight to keep you from overheating. The outer layer should be protective and offer breathability, too. This way, you can add or remove layers as the weather changes.
