Most Common Toilet Problems

A toilet is one of the most important fixtures in a home, and it’s important to keep it in good working order. Unfortunately, toilets can sometimes develop problems that can be difficult to spot. Here are some signs that your toilet may be in need of repair:

1. Slow flushing: If your toilet takes longer than usual to flush, there could be an obstruction in the trap or the piping. This is a common problem that can usually be fixed relatively easily.

2. Weak flush: A toilet with a weak flush may have a clog in the vent stack (the pipe that allows air to enter the sewer system). This problem will need to be addressed by a professional plumber.

3. Constantly running water: If your toilet tank is refilling constantly, there could be a leak in the fill valve or float assembly. This is another fairly easy problem to fix, but if left unchecked it can lead to high water bills!

4. Water on the floor: If you notice water around your toilet base, there could be a leak in the wax ring seal or one of the supply lines. Also, toilet flange leak can lead to water leakage. These leaks should be fixed as soon as possible to avoid further damage to your floors or subflooring.

5. Strange noises : Gurgling sounds coming from your toilet bowl or drain pipes may indicate an issue with your sewer line . This is definitely a problem that requires professional help , as it could mean serious damage to your home’s plumbing system.

6. Mineral buildup : Another common cause is mineral buildup on the valve seat – this can happen if you have hard water and can be exacerbated by using too much toilet bowl cleaner. If you suspect your flapper is failing due to age or mineral buildup, you’ll need to replace it with a new one. Fortunately, replacing a flapper is an easy do-it-yourself job that anyone can handle.

7. Blocked drain : Make sure there is nothing blocking the drain. Sometimes people will put too much paper in the toilet and it will block the hole. If this is the case, you just need to remove whatever is blocking the drain and then try flushing again. If there doesn’t seem to be anything blocking the drain, then it’s possible that there is something wrong with the flapper valve.

8. Clogged sewer line : This can happen if there’s a build-up of grease or other debris in the line. Another possibility is that there’s a blockage in your vent stack. This happens when there’s something blocking the air flow from the vents on your roof. If you think that either of these could be the problem, then you’ll need to call a plumber to come take a look.

Most problems in a toilet can be solved without professional help. But ignoring these problems can lead to more difficult problems like water wastage, smelling toilets or even an explosion in the sewer line. So, if none of these methods work, you’ll need to call a professional plumber to come and take care of the problem Read More
