Do you prefer your meat rare, medium, or well done? When it comes to eating a steak, these are the terms that are commonly used. If you are a meat lover, you may occasionally crave a steak dinner. While going to a restaurant may be your first thought, you can make a delicious steak right in your kitchen—one that isn’t overly high in calories or excessively expensive.

Making the perfect steak on the grill can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be if you have suitable steak recipes. Because not all steaks are created equal, we decided to compile a list of five steak recipes for you to try on your grill. From all-time favorites to a few lesser-known but outstanding cuts, these are the best steaks for grilling that you must try.

  1. Ribeye

Steak lovers have long regarded ribeye as the epitome of steak flavor. This cut comes from the animal’s ribs. Buying bone-in steak is preferable because the bone adds flavor to the meat. When shopping, look for steaks with streaky marbling, but avoid cuts with large chunks of fat in the middle.

This steak is delicious when seared hot and quickly on the grill for 3 to 4 minutes on each side and finished off on the cooler side. Another thing to remember is that the quality of the grill matters. A higher-quality grill, like Memphis grills, is safer and does better to retain and distribute the heat more evenly.

To cook your steak, season it with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper on all sides. Wrap the steak in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator overnight. Cook your steak on a hot grill, occasionally flipping to create an exterior sear until a thermometer reads 130-135o for medium-rare and 135-140o for medium. Allow the steak to rest for about 10 minutes after grilling and before slicing to allow the juices to settle. After cooking it, add some butter for another layer of flavor.

  1. Striploin steak

This steak is also known as the New York strip steak because it is popular there and is incredibly tender and lean. It is made from the same muscle as the ribeye and has subtle marbling throughout. Preheat the grill to medium-high (450°F to 550°F) to prepare the steak. Place the steaks on a baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil before seasoning with salt and pepper. Allow standing at room temperature for 20 minutes, covered.

In medium-low heat, melt the butter. Cook, frequently stirring, for 1 minute. Place steaks on an oiled grill and cook for 3 minutes or until grill marks appear. Turn the steaks 45 degrees to create diagonal grill marks. Grill until grill marks appear. Turn the steaks over and grill for 5 to 6 minutes. Brush steaks with garlic butter regularly, using an herb bundle as a brush.

  1. Porterhouse

Porterhouse comes from the loin primal and is cut towards the back end of the primal. To cook, brush both sides of the steak with oil and season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with garlic and herbs, and set aside at room temperature while the grill heats up.

Grill the steak and turn once until it is cooked to your liking. For medium-rare, allow 5 minutes on the first side and 4 minutes on the second, 8 minutes on the first side, and 5 minutes on the second. Although, timing will vary depending on the steak’s size and the grill’s precise temperature. Allow the steak to rest for at least 5 minutes on a plate or a wire rack placed on a baking sheet before slicing it from the bone and serving.

  1. Flat Iron steak

A flat iron steak is a meat cut from the animal’s shoulder. Season it with salt the day before you plan to cook it. Remove your steak from the refrigerator 15 minutes before cooking. Grill your flat iron steaks for 5 minutes on one side. Flip and grill until done to your liking, anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes, depending on the heat and thickness of your steak. To test this, use the finger test for doneness.

Remove the steaks from the grill, season with freshly cracked black pepper, and set aside for 5 minutes. Slice across the grain (the narrow end) and drizzle with citrus juice.

  1. Skirt Steak

Skirt steak is a type of plate beef steak. It is long and flat and has value for flavor rather than tenderness. To prepare it, Combine the oil, seasoning, garlic, and lemon juice in a small bowl. Rub the mixture on both sides of the meat, working it in thoroughly. Allow the meat to marinate for at least 30 minutes but no more than 45 minutes at room temperature.

Light a fire in a charcoal or gas grill and oil the grill grates. Grill the steak for 3 to 5 minutes on each side or until done to your liking. Allow the skirt steaks to rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Conclusion

Cravings for a perfectly grilled steak at home can be challenging to satisfy because perfecting the texture and tenderness can be difficult. However, the recipes listed above make it possible. There are a wide variety of steaks to try, so go to the supermarket and stock up on the ingredients for the steak you’ve been craving, and then try these delicious recipes.
