Changing Home Decor Like You Change Seasonal Fashion

You’re not going to wear a heavy down coat in the middle of July except for a laugh. Even if that coat is exceptionally stylish, you won’t be wearing it in July naturally. Similarly, you’re not going to go around in “short” shorts and a midriff shirt in the middle of November, because it’s too cold.

Well, as you change your fashion for the season, so also you should change home décor. Here we’ll explore a few ways to do that naturally, easily, conveniently, and effectively.

1. Change Decoration to Match the Season

Every season has appropriate décor. Snow themes and romance are in style from January to early March; around that time things transition to Easter décor, in mid-May, summer décor develops. By August, it’s time to upgrade things into autumn territory, and around mid-November, Christmas décor manifests. These are all examples of seasonal home décor.

One of the easiest ways to transition your home between summer and fall will be leaning into such decorative trends. By the end of August, it’s worth it to have those decorations “on deck”. Maybe after the kids’ first day at school, you put up Autumn décor.

Collaterally, this may even help subconsciously encourage children to focus on their schoolwork; especially if you make the change every year around this time.

2. Rearrange the Furniture for Autumn Soirees

A “soiree” is a “swank” way of saying “party”. It’s a more appropriate term because when you think “party”, it’s not hard to additionally imagine spiked punch and keg-stands. But these things don’t define autumn so much.

Pumpkin pie, spiced latte, canapes, festive music, yellows, oranges, reds, and early evenings are more appropriate. A soiree has that connotation. So lean into such a stylish approach to parties.

Maybe rearrange furniture a little bit to accommodate guests, but do it toward the end of summer. That way when it’s time to relax and celebrate with friends, you just prepare some refreshments and invite them over.

3. Lighting: Reconfigure LEDs to Match Seasonal Colors

Internet of Things (IoT) LEDs can be controlled from your smartphone. There are cheaper LEDs that come with little remote controls as well. With either sort of LED, you can control the colors which are slowly transitioned through. Well, as September ends, program LEDs to match colors of the season.

4. Music: Play Music Around the House That Evokes the Season

There is “autumn” music. Though there aren’t a lot of songs about Thanksgiving, a few are out there. Some songs are bittersweet, like “Forever Autumn” sung by the lead singer of The Moody Blues. Some music for autumn is simply orchestral. Put on music you like matching the season that you enjoy listening to, whatever its genre or style.

An Easy Transition

Music, lighting, furniture, and home décor represent four areas you can augment to simply and effectively reflect seasonal changes. Hopefully at minimum these suggestions help get your mind’s creative wheels turning. Everybody celebrates the change of the season differently!
